Forest Gym

Details

We have had to pause these sessions for now, but please get in touch to be added to our mailing list so you’re the first to know when we get them up and running again!

FREE sessions for adults only, Forest Bathing and Forest Gym provide an opportunity to enhance well-being and fitness on our beautiful Wild Meadow!

Forest Bathing is the therapeutic Japanese practise of nature-immersion, mindfully “bathing” in the phytoncides produced by the woodland around us. Sessions can involve finding a “sit-spot”, going for a “sensory walk”, journalling, drawing or guided meditations.

Forest Gym sessions are a good workout grounded in meaningful activities on the Wild Meadow, such as tree-planting, wood-chopping or pond-making- something to suit all ability levels.

How We've Spent Our Time

Our latest Forest Bathing sessions have been a beautiful balance of time with no-agenda, where attendees have chosen to rest against large tree trunks and explore the different textures of the foliage around them, and time spent gently socialising, gathering around the fire with a warm drink, sharing a light bite and following a guided meditation led by Forest School Leader Po. We’ve discussed how in upcoming sessions we’d like to bring along a sketch book to privately draw something that captures our attention.

Recently, Forest Gym attendees have been building their stamina and working their muscles by hammering in tree stakes, chopping firewood and doing squats while tidying the mud kitchen! We have ventured onto the common for a 2.18km walk (3,000 steps) to harvest some non-native saplings. Attendees said they felt they’d worked out their back, legs, arms and elbows, and had sweated through exertion! They’d enjoyed learning about the types of trees too.
